    wheel cleaning

Have a set of original knock-off wheels. Wish to clean dirt and roughness from back side of wheels. Can I use aluminum cleaner? How should I proceed nd not do damage?

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: wheel cleaning

    I would proceed as follows:

    1. Remove wheels from car, and use house pressure from garden hose to remove heavy dirt, etc.

    2. Use mild auto carwash or dish washing detergent, like Dawn, etc. with hot water and nylon bristle brush.

    3. Use aggressive solvent, like acetone, or lacquer thinner to remove organic deposits (i.e. road tar, etc), being careful to avoid contact with painted surfaces.

If this is not satisfactory, then I would consider having the Kelsey-Hayes wheels "restored".
