    1966 air cleaner base

I do not have the original air cleaner base for a 1966 327/300hp with A.I.R. Can someone please help with what to look for...such as number of tubes, direction of tubes, and if it has a stud or bracket.

    Thanks, Lou.

    Lou-----

The air cleaner base for 1966 Corvettes with 327 and K-19(A.I.R.) was never available from GM as a seperate service part. It came only as part of air cleaner assembly GM #6422287. This part has, of course, been discontinued for MANY years.

Paragon sells a reproduction of the air cleaner base under their part number PR-1684 and a picture of it can be found in their catalog. This is an expensive part at $130. However, if you need one it's probably going to be your most practical option. Finding a used one of these would undoubtedly be quite a challenge.

      Thanks Joe,

But does anyone have a way of describing what the original looked like? I have Dave in San Diego that stated he may have one, but he whats me to verify number of tubes, direction of the tubes, and if it has a stud or bracket.

        Lou,

The K-19 base has two tubes and one stud. The tube on the passenger side exists downward and to the front. This tube is connected to the back of the AIR pump with a short preformed hose. The tube on the drivers side exits downward and to the rear. This tube connects to the engine block vent tube with a very short piece of straight hose. The stud is is on the passenger side facing down. This stud is used to support a circular bracket that holds the "gulp" valve in place.

As I recall, both tubes have flame arrestors installed. These arrestors are seperate parts - they are not permanently attached to the base.
