    1966 Date Question (K19)

This question is about the "timing" of a few date codes. I'm looking at a '66 Coupe that has an engine pad stamping date of: F0623HD (June 23 '66 350hp A.I.R) The trim tag has an "K21" (A.O. Smith body) which is June 21. Is this possible? And what would the "birthday" of the car be?
The "HD" in the engine pad tells me its a 327 350hp with K19 A.I.R.. Does this mean that this was a California car? Where all K19 cars shipped to CA? Thanks

Sure its possible. Having the Flint engine assembled within a couple of days of the body build is not a problem. The next question is what is the vin. You can determine when the car was assembled based on the vin. You know the birth dates of the enging and body, now through a little arithmatic you can determine the birth date of the car using the vin and the monthly vin production statistics...

        Ken-----

It's very possible. Keep in mind that for A.O. Smith bodies, it took awhile for the body to get shipped from Ionia, MI to St. Louis and, then, to get sequenced into the line there. During this time, the engine was being built at Flint, shipped to St. Louis and residing in the engine bay for some period. In this case, it looks like the time it took for the body to get to the production line and the time it took for the engine to get to the production line were just about equal.

Offically, the 1966 K-19 option was exclusive to cars shipped to California. I have a feeling, though, that if it had been ordered for a car being delievered to another state, the car would have been so-built. However, I doubt that this possibility ever got tested. I mean, who would have ordered it?

          Re: Here is the VIN

          The vin is: 125384
What would be the "birthday"? And does the numbers on the block and body work for that vin number? (Correct time frame)

            Ken,

I don't have a "Corvette Birthday Book", so either try a new post with all information included, or go to the Wisconsin site listed below.

              Ken -

VIN says the car was built June 30th, so the other dates look good.
