Does anyone know of someone who can "reskin' a door panel? I have lost patience with the reproductions I have. I have two sets of old door panels and a set of vinyl covers.

Re: 67 door panels
"The repos I have are too stiff. They are also too thick. There is not enough handle shaft sticking out of the panel to get the trim plate behind the handle."
The first problem (too stiff compared to actual originals) used to be the way of all repro panels from any source. But, I've been told, Al Knoch responded a year or so back by softening the padding and vinyl used on his version of '67 reproduction panels. But, I can't personally confirm that.
On the second issue, that shouldn't be a problem. When you talk about 'handle shaft' are you referring to the door lock, window crank, vent crank, release handle or all of the above? One problem that some have encountered is not knowing there's a difference in shaft length between convertible and coupe vent window cranks, sourcing the wrong version of the crank and then having an interference fit issue with the door panel...- Top

Re: 67 door panels
I have complained for more than 25 years, to Al Knoch and others, about the thickness issues. Its like talking to a fence post. And it is a serious problem as far as I am concerned. If you finally get the damn handles on, they are sunk down into the panels and the handle hits the raised portions when turned. Because they are so hard to boot, it makes installation a royal pain. You can get the handles on by digging the foam out from under the skin, but as I said, that sinks them into the panel.- Top
