    67 bigblock stinger paint pattern

Does anyone have the dimensions for the stinger painting on a 67 hood that they can send me. I have heard nothing but horror stories about the stencils, and I am not sure that I would pay that much for something I can layout myself with tape. This is not going to be a judged car, so if I can just get close to the correct dimensions, I will be happy.

John, I believe that the dimensions can be found in the '67 AIM. The stencils are not all that bad, you have to take your time laying it out. I have done four with good results.

      Thanks Dick,

I was trying to avoid buying another AIM. This hood is on my 65 resto-mod car.
If anybody can send me a copy of that page, or just a sketch of the dimensions,I would appreciate it.

      Regards, John McGraw

Here are photos of my take on the hood stripe....

        Dimensions

The stripe follows the "body line" from the point until it is on the hood itself. Then it continues for a short distance into a "sweeping curve" that makes the stripe no longer follow the body line and it ends up as shown at the "air intake"

        Hope this helps..

-------Boy, Havent looked at that page in awhile and its easy to see why so many hood stripes have no taper on the front spear. There are no measurements of the front spear at the rear end up against the hood scoop. Not only that but the factory drawing appears to have the same dimensions from the edge of the stripe to the side edge of the spear all the way back to the scoop, and that is where so many (probably) well intentioned folks make their mistake. It is almost painful for me to see a nice restoration on a big-block 67 and then notice that the hood stripe on the spear is too wide at the scoop end and uniform down both sides. That page of the assembly manual has a lot of problems and that is why I would probably invest in a template if I was doing a 67 hood stripe........Bill S

Actually the dimensions are quite good on the width. The real problem for me was "how long is the stripe on the front valence area".

I studied those grid drawings C3, C5, C7, and finally got help on part of it from this website.
The F.O.D. point is not defined to a "hard" location such as the face of the firewall etc., therefore its difficult to determine -50 SV (side view) by itself, from the grid datum point. However, if you use dimension #27 -43.80 C3 front view, as your reference base, which also happens to be the forward edge of the hood opening, then -50 (-) -43.80 = 6.20.
If you measure 6.20 inches from the hood edge forward, you will have the location of the point of the inner large stripe. The other "outline stripe" is a constant 5/16" from the large stripe.

              Thanks Steve,
Even if it ain't perfect, it will be close enough for my car. It is actually a 65 with a 67 front clip and a bigblock hood without a bigblock! Not going to put the 427 emblems on the hood, but might put some LS2 emblems on it, if I can find some. As close as it will ever get to the judging floor will be the sportsman parking lot.
