I am putting my motor back together and want to make sure that I have the correct bolts for flight judging. I currently have the Flag style bolts as shown in Vette Vues, but not for sure if these are correct. I referred to the Judging manual with no help there either. What is correct for judging?

I can't tell you what's correct for judging. However, I can tell you that I believe that the "flag" headmark bolts (trademark for Elco Industries of Rockford, IL) with or without the "E" or "EL" in the center, no flag with "E" or "EL" (also trademarks for Elco Industries), or an "L" (trademark for, I believe, Lambson and Sessions) were used. These things were being used by the MILLIONS during the period. Even if someone showed me 10 absolutely known 100% original cars which had all "flag" headmarked bolts, I'd say that all that means is that's what was being used on the days that the engines for those cars were assembled. There may even have been other headmark bolts used besides the ones I described above.
However, ALL of the bolts were untrimmed (i.e. indented) hex head bolts of 1/4-20 X 1/2" with captive external tooth star lockwasher. The corner bolts were 5/16-18 X 5/8" with captive split lockwasher. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
