I have a 65 conv. in my shop for windshield gskt replacement. It had been gobbed up with all sorts of sealants. When I removed the windshield I found a rusted lower section of windshield frame. What will be the best approach to this problem, and what parts are available? Casey Andersen

There are no reproduction parts currently available for your needs and NOS pieces are probably about as scarce as hens' teeth. The part number was GM #3845846 but it has been discontinued for over 20 years. I understand that CSC Reproductions of Rocky River, OH is going to be reproducing these 63-67 windshield frame parts in the future. I don't know what their time schedule for this is, though. You might want to call them at 440-331-8939 and see where they're at on the project.
Otherwise you have, basically, two options. First, find a good used windshield frame and salvage the parts you need. Or, have a good metalsmith fabricate sections and have them welded in to repair just the rust-damaged areas. I wouldn't recommend this type of repair operation for a hobbyist. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: rusty windshield frame
Just got my new catalog (catalog 21) from Zip today. In it they have windshield parts. They are listing 63-67 body lock pillar for coupe and conv; 63-67 rocker channel, 73-82 lower corner windshield frame, 68-82 upper header windshield frame, 68-82 upper windshield frame corners.
They also state: "Over the next couple of months, Zip Products will have available many structural pieces for the 68-82 Corvette body frame. Some of this will include jig assembled windshidle frames, windshield posts, and rocker channels."
Looks like help may be on the way.
