Floorboard heat shield

Hello,

I understand there are some good products available to install under front carpet to reduce noise and heat. I've read that home improvement stores sell rolls of material that can be cut to size and adhered to the floor prior to laying the carpet.

I'm interested in what products everyone would recommend.

Many have used a product call Dynamat, very good, but it is a little costly.
I went to Home Depot (Lowes would have same thing) and purchased the foil lined insulation that comes in various widths,(I used the 24 inch width) cost me approx $20 and I had enough to do my entire interior with lots left over. Cuts with scissors and can be glued with spray adhesive. Easy to shape into the contours of the floor. Looks almost like bubble wrap with foil on both sides. It made a noticeable difference in reducing the amount of heat that was previously transmitted through the floor boards and transmission tunnel. It's not very thick so it didn't affect the fit of my carpets. I used it because I read on various forums that others had used it with good success.

If you go to a good auto upolstrey shop they will have a product that is made for this. I think it is called insul something? A friend that build's hot rod's told me about it. It comes in 2ft. rolls, and they sell it by the yard. And cut's with scissors also, but it relly works better than the home depot stuff. I have tried both and the floors stay really cool with this stuff.it is only about 5/8 in. thick and does not interfere with the carpet install.
