    High temp caliper paint

I was wondering if someone could recommend a high temp, low gloss black paint for my calipers as per the 68-69 TIM&JG. Not sure if I need high temp or not but I thought it might be a good idea.

    Thanks

    Re: High temp caliper paint

    Greg------

I use and recommend VHT High Temp caliper paint in satin black. Brake calipers do get hot. Although they might not need the high temp capabilities of this paint, it can't hurt anything. More important, this paint (or, epoxy paint) is more chemically resistant than ordinary paint. That's important, especially if one is using a glycol-based brake fluid (DOT 3, 4 or non-silicone DOT 5). While the paint is NOT impervious to these fluids, it's more resistant than ordinary paint. So, that's a plus.

I have found the satin black to have SLIGHTLY more gloss than the original, nearly flat black paint used on calipers. However, I'm not going to "split hairs" on this. On balance, the VHT satin black caliper paint is the "way to go" as far as I'm concerned.

Speed shops tend to stock VHT paint.

Yes, the paint is usually sold in automotive parts stores or speedshops---not at hardware or general merchandise stores. Some of the national auto parts chains have it, though, so you don't need to find a specialty shop. I think that Summit has it.

I believe you'll find that Caswell has the best selection of VHT coatings.
