I've read the manuals and the install seems to be straight forward however I'm still not getting fuel to the carb. This is a new pump and it goes in easy with 2 bolts. Is there something I'm missing or a special trick to install?

Re: 63 Fuel Pump Installation
No special trick just have to make sure pump lever is catching bottom of pushrod in block. Some blocks have a bolt hole in front of block that a longer bolt can be used to hold pushrod up untill you get pump secured then remove long bolt and replace with original.

Re: 63 Fuel Pump Installation
I cracked the casting on a new fuel pump once because the fuel pump push rod slid down before I could tighten up the fuel pump (and I didn't realize it). Since then, I always use wheel bearing grease and slather it on the fuel pump push rod. Then install the fuel pump push rod into the block pushing it up as far as it will go. The heavy grease will prevent it from sliding down giving you plenty of time to install and tighten up the fuel pump. In my opinion, non-synthetic grease works best for this purpose.- Top

Re: 63 Fuel Pump Installation
The bolts are not easy to install because you're fighting the spring tension of the pump arm while you're trying to line things up. Also, sometimes the block threads are buggered up from a previous "tech". I suggest using a couple of short threaded studs inserted into the block holes, and the pump wiggled onto them. Install and tighten one nut to clamp the pump to the block, and then replace the studs one at a time with the correct bolts.
Good Luck!- Top
