    65/66 Power Antenna Removal

I'm planning to remove the repop antenna from my 66 and replace it with the restored original. Any tricks to removing the antenna with undercar exhaust? I installed the repop before I dropped the body back on the frame and it was a piece of cake. Seems to me that the left side muffler should be loosened and dropped as far as possible. Fortunately, I have a two post lift to raise the car. It'll be a tight fit up under there.

Hope to have the repop (almost brand new) at Carlisle for sale.

PS - Had a great time at the National in San Antonio!

    Regards,
    Dave K.

    Re: 65/66 Power Antenna Removal

    Dave,
I have a 66 coupe with under car exhaust and have removed and installed my original power antenna without having to remove the muffler. I did it lying on my back and it was not easy but can be done. As you mentioned, you have to remove the exhaust tip, loosen the muffler and get it out of the way as best you can. I believe I wedged a block of wood in there to get the muffler out of the way which freed up both my hands to work on the antenna. Just take your time and wear something to protect your eyes.
    Good Luck

      Chev Service News June '66 -- R & R procedure

John has described the essence of how to do it, but it was obviously a problem even back in 1965/66, so here's how Chev suggests to tackle the job.

Do not remove the antenna motor mounting bracket for antenna replacement.
      1. Fully lower the antenna
      2. Disconnect the battery ground cable
      3. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place on jack stands
      4. Remove tail pipe extension
      6. Loosen fiberglass valance panel located below bumper
      7. Disconnect muffler from mount, swing slightly aside and prop with a block of wood
      8. Disconnect antenna lead-in and motor electrical connections at quick disconnect at antenna base
      9. Remove antenna cap, bezel and gasket
      10. Remove lower motor mounting bolt
      11. Slide motor assembly inboard off of the bracket and out of the vehicle
      12. Reverse the above procedure for antenna installation
