    Trailing arms are in!!!

Thanks to all who helped me on my recent trailing resto and bearing replacement. I cant beleive how quiet and tight my car is now! judging by the now silient ride the repair was timely apparently the bearing were complaining for a while...I guess 30+ year old grease doesn't work so well...

    Thanks again.

I removed them from the car myself, had a local shop press out the spindles after a futile attempt with a kent moore look alike screw type press by yours truley, then I bead blasted and ground them clean. I then primed them and painted them with an engine enamel. I was carefull to leave the welding blobs and such when I cleaned them up in an attempt to not over-restore them. I basically followed several articles i had read in the restorer, and other vette publications and with help from other NCRS board members

Over all the project was very satisfying and am very pleased with the results. I debated for a while wheather to epoxy paint (por-15) or enamel but my car is a fair weather driver so hopefully the enamel stants up over time... I found that the POR-15 finish (on a scrap pice of steel) made it looked like it had been powdercoate, so opted for POR15 on the inside of the T-arms and enamel on the outside...

That POR15 is weird stuff. It has a very heavy build but it does protect metal. I think your paint job will perform very similar to original. As a fair weather driver they should last just fine. Most people don't drive their corvettes on gravel roads either. Nice job! Terry

          Thans,

I don't think I'll be going into business anytime soon though, I spent upwards of 60 hours on the prep and paint alone...

I know what you mean there. You can't work on these cars like a steel body car. There is very little comparison. Corvettes are great and they have a lot going for them but they are a PITA at times to work on. I did my trailing arms also. I hope they hold up??? Hope that high pressure disk brake grease can make up for my short comings??? I will drive slow for a while and see what comes of it. My wife is always asking me if I really know where all the nuts and bolts go and if I really trust myself for all the work I have done to the car. Guess I know where my wife stands... I don't mind the time for the most part. I work on it when I can and if I can't, oh well. It will just wait for another day. Though I am running out of things to do lately. Hopefully, I will have it on the road. Take car, Terry
