A 1973 Corvette is on ebay with this trim tag. I have heard about SPEC eing on a trim tag but never two dashes. Does thisseem like a real trim tag? The date code on the trim tag and the VIN sequence number match up. I am going to add this car to my 73 registry/database with a ? next to the paint code. Just wondering if anyone has seen a trim tag with dashes on it.
Roger
I never seen the dashes used either but I would say it is real by you checking the dates. To fake a trim tag on a 73 that would need to be judged in primer makes no sense.
Hello Roger,
The rivets in the photo are not typical factory production. I have not seen dashes used on trim tags.
In 1973 Hory Chevrolet, Larchmont, New York had ordered a batch of Black cars for inventory.
On steel cars, two dashes was the Fisher Body convention for "special paint" on the cowl trim tag; however, that could mean anything from stripe delete to different color stripe to a special color not offered on that car line.
Hello Roger,
I have been doing some research to follow up with Hory Chevrolet. They had advertised custom paint. It was in listed with other special cars like the LT-1 engine Vega offered by their dealership. It was listed early November 1972.
The cars were made in September or October at St. Louis plant.
