We are in the process of a high quality restoration of a 1967 Corvette Coupe 427ci. with a bright blue interior. We tried to match the original color of the carpet with a new carpet, unfortunately all the 5 sample pieces we received from different sellers do not match our BRIGHT BLUE carpet (compared to non sun faded piece from under the sill plates). Can anybody help?

Re: C2: 1967 bright blue carpet
I know last year Al Knoch was working on a better bright blue for a friend during Carlisle. Don't know the outcome he took a sample from friends car. Good luck with your "high quality restoration" we don't get those around here very often.

Re: C2: 1967 bright blue carpet
This is Kevin's friend and I'm honored to be one!
The carpet Kevin is talking is actually a 1965 MY Bright Blue and I don't know if it is the same as 1967, but this is what happened.
I had put new Al Knock carpet " bright Blue" in my 65 in 1982 when during my frame off restoration and it matched the ORIGINAL carpet to the tee. Fast forward to 2004 when I decided it was time to put another Al Knock "Bright Blue" carpet in..........you know the usual, sun bleached, heater core malfunctioned. So I ordered new "Bright Blue" carpet from Al at Corvettes of Carlisle in 2004 and it arrived sometime in late Sept and when I compared it to the "bright Blue" that was in the car and It wasn't even close!
It was a very LIGHT Blue. I called Al and told him the story and he said that is the color they have been selling, BUT he would try and do something about it and I should ship it back. I told him that I didn't have time as I was leaving on a 7 month Motorhome trip in two day with my 65 in tow. He asked where I was going, and I told him we were going to tour the country out west and end up in FL. He asked if we were going to be going thru El Paso TX and I said yes. He then suggested that I bring the carpet with me and they would make it right and even install it. So that's what I did. When I got to his plant, they didn't have any "Bright Blue" period. After much discussion and searching, Arturo, Dale, and Al concluded that they had been selling the wrong color "Bright Blue" for 1965 and they didn't even have a sample big enough to send to their carpet supplier for them to use as a color guide. Al asked me if they could cut a piece out of my cargo area that they could use as a color match. Of course I said yes and they cut out a piece about 8 inches square. They were to bring the NEW "Bright Blue" carpet to COC 2005 and install it there. Now wait, this gets better................ I bring the 65 to COC 2005 and they bring the NEW BB carpet, which BTW is the RIGHT BB, BUT it has the WRIONG color binding and heel pad............so back to the drawing board! Arturo takes the carpet back to El Paso and runs me a new set with the right "BB" binding color and heel pad. Now we are getting some where!
It has been installed, with the help of fellow Vettehead and NCRS member, Rob Dame.......thanks again Rob, and it not only looks good but it is the right "Bright Blue" color.

Art,
Believe me the pleasure is all mine in the friendship department, didn't want to use your name without asking. In fact I edited my post and removed your name thanks for picking up the story. If you guys get a chance Art has one of the nicest 65's around and he'll be driving it if you get the chance to catch him.

Re: C2: 1967 bright blue carpet
I didnt know Al Knoch ever had the correct color for 67. At least I have never seen it. The color that most sell is much too light blue. Original 67 bright blue is much darker. At one time Auto custom Carpets actually had the correct color, but I dont know it they do now. Things have changed over there.- Top

Re: C2: 1967 bright blue carpet
Thank you so much for your time to answer my question. Unfortunately we are located in Switzerland (sometimes it is also luck...) so I can not go by with the car - obviously even being on the same continent does not always help! The sample we received from Al Knoch was clearly a LIGHT BLUE and not a BRIGHT BLUE (we got samples from ACC, Al Knoch, MidAmerica, Corvette America, and Trim Parts).
I will try to get more samples - has anybody a list of Corvette carpet producers - so I could contact them.
Regards from Switzerland,

Re: C2: 1967 bright blue carpet
Wane, Now that I think about it, when I was at Al Knocks, I'm sure when Dale pulled out THEIR small sample(not big enough to send to their supplier)it had a tag on it that said 65-67 so maybe it is the same color for 65-67.
As a result of my situation, they NOW are selling the right BB color for at least 65 that I know of. Al told me that to have his supplier do a major run like this cost him about 200K so he didn't do it just for the hell of it.
It was nice to see a supplier step up to the plate and correct a wrong------Thanks AL.

Re: C2: 1967 bright blue carpet
I used "Auto Color Carpet" in my 67 restoration. It matched very close to the origianl carpet I had from removal of the side vent panel and sill plate. Received National Top Flight in 1005 with no deducts for carpet color. 67 blue is defeinately darker than 65/66 bright blue.
