Re: C2, Trying to find Delco Ballist...
Collin, The correct ballast resistor appearance wise for your '63 would be the one with a 'tab' on it. Seems to be the latest nitch for our judges. Go into the archives here and you will see that someone posted a neat pic of one. Thought mine was correct in that it was bought new from Chevy in late 70's but turns out it was an SR (service replacement) Watch ebay for correct one. Also if you do find a junker that is not in show condition here is a little trick. Remove the entire wrapping or bracket by using a dremel cutter and slicing the bracket in half down the back side. Then get it zincad plated, use the correct SR replacement porcelain. Then have the back side tack welded back together. You will then have the correct looking ballast resistor and the repair will be unseen. Didn't do it on my car but helped several friends. Tab definition is hard to describe but I will try Just to the right of the mounting hole on the SR the metal is a rather perfect round contour. The one you want looks sheared off-verticle cut-crude looking but original. The archives post I believe was late 2005 or early 2006. Maybe someone can post it again for you. At the Auburn regional the judges were amazed on the 63-64 team to see that so many of the cars were up on this part. Email me if you need any more info. Make sure you match your 091 or 087 coil to the correct part. See our JM for chart. The black dot may in fact be the spot weld on the original style. Not sure. John- Top

Hi Collin:
See the August 14 thread "63 ballast resistor and coils" for an interesting discussion about the two different ballast resistances and the two different coils used in 1963. It sounds like your car may have originally had the 0.3 0hm resistor. Original 0.3 ohm resistors in good condition are harder to find than the 1.8 ohm version.- Top
