The sender unit is brand new, any ideas way gas gauge is stuck? Who do you troubleshoot to determine if its the gauge or the sender?

Re: C2 - Gas Gauge stuck on 3/4 tank...any ideas??
Please explain in a little more detail about grounding the tan wire... what do you mean by "Alternately ground and power the tan wire.. The needle will deflect full scale. Are you saying ground the tan wire while the power (battery) is on, this will cause the need on the test meter or the gas gauge to deflect full scale...Sorry I just don't understand... THANKS...- Top

Collin, I would do obvious thing first. Take a thin rod & bend it. Insert in gas tank & grab the float itself move up/down. Have someone watch guage,Key on. If you have a small hand you can do it that way. Float may just be hung up. 2 min. to find out. Don- Top

That was my first step to do, but I was more concerned about if that does not work. I just changed this thing about a month ago too, when I put in the new gas tank...I hope that's all it is....thanks for bringing that up though...still interested in trying to found out about the tan wire test....mentioned above, just don't understand entirely what he was doing and reading for the results...

Don't put 12V to the Tan wire while it is
connected to the sender. If you put 12V to the "S" terminal of the sender, you could burn out the rheostat in the sender unit, then nothing will work.
Do the gage tests with the wires disconnected from the sender unit. The Pink (or Light Green) wire connected to the "I" terminal of the sender is hot with 12V with the ignition on. If you connect this hot lead to the "S" terminal or jump across the "I" and "S" terminals, you'll fry the sender unit.
If you disconnect the Tan (or brown) wire from the sender and jump it to a ground, the gage is supposed to go to one side. If you disconnect the Pink (or Light Green) wire from the sender and jump it to the disconnected Tan (or Brown)wire the gage should go to the other side. (I just forget which sides).
If that works, your gage is good and the problem is with the sender, poor connections or ground.
I hope the sender is not one of those foreign jobbers.
