    Quadrajet date coding

I have been researching a correct replacement Quadrajet for my 1972 small block/auto/AC car.

I know the "part number" should be 7042202.

My question concerns date code schemes for Quadrajets. All of my "web research" so far
suggests that these carburetors were date coded using four digits, like:

DDDY --> DDD = sequential year day, Y = last digit of the year

However, I have now seen several quadrajets for sale on the web with no four
digit code, but instead some combination of four letters and numbers.
I typically see a pair of letters (which MIGHT be a code for the factory
where the carburetor was made....or installed) plus a second pair consisting
of a single letter and a single digit. It seems like most people interpret a
single letter plus a single digit as an alternate form of date coding, like:

MY --> M = letter code for month, Y = last digit of year

Was that scheme for date coding ever used for these carburetors?

If so, does A=January, etc. or was the letter A referenced to a different
    starting month (August, for example)?

    Thanks for any help.

You have the date code correct in both cases. The first way you stated is the rochester code jullian date then year. Carter also made rochester's and their code is letter year.

Thanks Lyle. For Carter date codes, does the letter A stand for January?

I have had an old Q Jet laying around for some time, it also is stamped 7042202, D2, circle with C inside, DJ. Is D2 april of 72, circle with C Carter built and DJ a broadcast code??
