The master cylinder in my 60 was still leaking after putting in a rebuild kit. It was actually leaking fluid out the backside into the passenger compartment. Looks like the corrosion in the bore in just too much for the new kit to compensate for. For the time being, I have replaced it with a service replacement unit. I would like to verify that the unit I took off is in fact the original one for the vehicle. On the drivers side of the casting is:
5458022 (with 022) in a much larger size (the “8” may be a “6”????)
108-9 followed by “1” Dia.”
To the right of these two lines is a metal stamped “R5”
Is the “108-9” the regular casting format - meaning Sept 8, 1959?
Is this too early for a Corvette with an assembly date of Feb 3, 1960?
Any clue what the “R5” means?
The front of the reservoir is steel stamped:
5454486
320-G
I assume these are just model/part numbers?
If this does appear to be the original master cylinder, should I get it “sleeved”?
Any recommendation as to who does a good job at that?
Thanks
