    Battery Shut Off Switch

Car theft for specialty cars is on the rise in our area. Thieves are getting more brazen by going into upper scale neighborhoods (which previously had very low crime rates) and breaking into the cars as well as garages to get to the cars.

This has caused me to very reluctently, alter the Vette with a Battery cut off switch. For those who also have done so, which Brands and or Types should I be considering. Although mine is a "driver" it gets out very little in the winter months. Should I be looking at those which provide for a trickle charger. I also want to hide it in the car so as to make a theft that much harder as well as not conspicuously seen.

Thanks in advance to all those who have already done this to their car(s)!!!

Find the hot wire for the amp gage and install a 50 amp switch. It can been hidden under the dash within reach of the driver.

Check out a marine supply store for a selection of high quality battery cutoff switches. Required on boats when refueling. Are you asking re a C-3 or other model?

This is a $25.00 start. Most thieves will look for it, however.

Thank you Kent, Joe & Paul...

Add'l info... Yes a C3 72 coupe.... Yes anticipate it would be near the battery which of course is behind the drives seat in this application.....Was not sure if it had to be a part of the battery cable size..... OR... a solenoid/switch system....

Any additional suggestions or 1-2 suggested brand systems is still hugely appreciated!!!

            Norm:
I just had a battery disconnect switch installed on my '58-the round knob kind where you can either give it a few twists and it disconnects the battery or unscrew it until it comes off to prevent theft. I do this when (on rare occasions) I go out to dinner and parking it. Put the knob in your pocket and take it with you.

This might help a little more. Add a key lock switch to the battery compartment lid. Just like the middle storage compartment lid. Take the knob, lock the lid. Will only slow down a pro, might stop a rookie.

Install a hidden switch on the start solenoid(primary side,ie; small S wire) and/or the neutral safety switch. Thief will have to screw with it to long and go to the next sorry soul. I'm not saying that disconnects arent good as a deterrent. They are better than none, but I use them more for storage than deterrent. I'd rather mess with low current side. My 2cents

                  Norm,
I recommend a product called Battery Brain. It can be hidden and remotely activated by a push button remote that can be on your key chain or elsewhere. There are two versions. Although it can be found and overriden eventually, so can pretty much all theft deterrents. This has other benefits as well. If you leave your lights on (interior, headlights, etc.) it monitors your battery and shuts it down if the voltage approaches a lower limit of what is needed to start the car. Check on EBay if you are interested. They are frequently available for about $60 or less. I have used mine for 6 months and like it.
