How much time is reasonable between vehicle production date and cylinder head date? I know that this is not judged, however I would like properly dated heads. My car has the correct, original block.

Re: '65 327-350 cylinder heads
Jim,
There are three relevant dates to consider:
1. Engine build date
2. Body build date
3. Final assembly date
"Six months prior to final assembly date", is a generic time-frame used to qualify any part on any particular car as being valid for that particular car. This takes into account the exception as well as the norm. Most engine castings, whether cast at Saginaw, or Tonowanda, and machined and assembled at either the Flint or Tonowanda engine plant are usually within 1 week, or less, of engine assembly date.

Re: '65 327-350 cylinder heads
Jim,
I also have a 65 L79. It has it's original block and heads. The heads are dated 4/21/65 and 4/22/65. Block casting date of 4/30/65, and engine assembly date of 5/6/65. Birthday calculator by VIN, estimates a build date of 5/13/65. There are anomolies, but typically it didn't take very long from casting to assembly.- Top

Re: '65 327-350 cylinder heads
On a popular engine option like L-79 it would probably be rare to see any casting dates earlier than 30 days prior to the car's build date unless a non-linear event such as a strike interceded, but longer time frames would not be unusual for low volume engine options like the hydraulic lifter FI engines from the C1 era.

Re: '65 327-350 cylinder heads
in the vein of "data helps construct the answer" my 65 L76 (365 hp) original engine with assumed to be original heads (no reason to believe otherwise, but to be sure, I did not own the car from delivery, so anything is theoretically possible):
Block cast date - March 17 1965
Heads cast date - March 22, 1965 (both)
Engine Assembly Date - March 29, 1965
Car's "Birthday" - April 6, 1965
