I have a friend who wants to install Vintage Air in a 61 driver. My question is for those who have done this. How does this system fit, does it work ok, did the kit come with everything needed to install, how do the controls work ( do you replace the original heater switch with theirs). Was it a fairly simple straight forward install.Looking at the underside of a C1 dash and considering you use the OEM heater and defrost system, I can't see where it fits. It looks like a pretty tight fit. Just a few question this system. Thanks Jerry #3179

Re: C1 Air Conditioning ( Vintage Air)
There was a great presentation at the San Antonio Convention. The systems I've seen on mid years work good and function well! Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Re: C1 Air Conditioning ( Vintage Air)
i'm not sure it will fit but vintagr air re-pops the mark iv under dash unit---i prefered it over the "factory" style unit they sent me first time around---the under dash unit is self contained and you leave the factory heater and controls in---i put the unit in a 71 chevy 4x4---will freeze you out---their factory unit comes with every thing you need a good kit---the under dash unit requiers you to cut hoses and crimps the ends on, which will have to be done by a hose shop or well equiped auto parts store---they are great to work with and will help you---they want the customer happy above making a sale---good luck with the install- Top

Re: C1 Air Conditioning ( Vintage Air)
Jerry,
Both Vintage Air and Hot Rod air, remove all the stock heater setup and replace it with a conbination heat/cool unit. I have a Hot Rod Air unit in my 59 resto-mod, and have seen a few Vintage air units. You are right about the fit, as it is real tight under there, even with the original heater gone. Both setups are complete, and are easy to return to stock configuration if desired in the future.

Re: C1 Air Conditioning ( Vintage Air)
Jerry,
I put their Sure-Fit series on my 67 and I didn't believe how well it fit although very tight. Everything was engineered to fit exactly, even the evaporator lines through the radiator supports, with just the right bends. It was just a bolt on installation which I did myself. On the C2's, you change the heater box to their heat/cool box.
The 58-62 system is different. It is advertised as a cool only system which uses your original heater box. Not sure how it fits with a C1, but I think they have it figured out from my experience with the C2 system.
They are nice people to work with too. They just sent me 2 new radio side panels for a 67 when I called them. (they had sent me side panels for a 63-66).
They put out an installation manual over the net for 63-67 but I don't see one for a 58-62. Maybe, your friend should just call them, see if they will send the 58-62 installation instructions and you can get a better idea of how it installs.
