C3 Tire Size -- Judged vs Driver

I've decided to do the two tire/wheel set route. One set for judging & one set for driving.

Question for the Driver set is: Which size actually works best with the C3 1972's without rubbing. Have rec'd mixed "correct application" sizes. Some say 255 x 60R x 15. Others say those will rub. Some say 245 60R 15 JM would like to go a whole lot smaller, but since they won't be judged I'd rather go with the larger size.

If memory serves me correct when I bought the first set of replacements I went with the BF Goodrich Radial TA's but not sure about size.

Thanks in advance from the C3 types out there!!!!

Norm, on my wife's '72 the 225/60's will rub ever so gently in a hard turn if you hit a bump. We replaced them with 215/60's this time.

My '70 has the 245/60-15's (B.F. Goodrich T/A's) on it. Some slight frame rubbing when wheels are at full turn, but hasn't been a problem.

        Dick----

Do you mean 225-70 and 215-70?

          Norm-----

I've used 245-60-15 for years. I have no rubbing problem, at all. However, this size is getting to be very hard to find.

Some have reported that 235-60-15 works fine. However, I'm not too keen on this size since the OD is, in my opinion, too small compared to the original F-70-15 tires used for all 68-72 Corvettes and it doesn't fill out the wheel well properly.

The 255-60-15 presents a BIG risk for rubbing. I would not use it unless you are willing to make some modifications if it rubs. Personally, I would not attempt to use this tire on any 68-77.

Most folks report that a 225-70-15 works fine. A 215-70-15 is the safest bet to avoid rubbing, though, as Dick mentions.
