I know this is a technical site but I have seen the occasional post asking for advice in regards to other corvette related issuses and you guys had been a big help so now I'm asking for a little advice here.
I'm in Canada and the vendor is in the States and here is what is going on...
I placed an on-line order for some small items(hardware, airfilter, body mount, etc) but it also included the chassis fuel lines and tunnel insulation. The order was for around $600. In the order instructions I forgot to mention that I wanted all the parts held until all the backordered items were in and then shipped in one box to save on brokerage fees and shipping and to only use USPS and not UPS. I realized my mistake and maybe a minute or two later sent those shipping instructions to their sales department with my customer order number so that they could tie the two together.
A week or so past and I received a e-mail from them saying that all my parts were in and that they will be shipped the next day.
I send a return e-mail asking for the shipping charges.
A day or so later I received a e-mail from them with two UPS tracking numbers!
I wasn't impressed but thought I'd wait and see what showed up. UPS arrived with THREE boxes and a bill for $98 CDN brokerage fees! I had to go to work so I just paid them.
The next day I sent an e-mail to this vendor asking why my shipping instructions had not been followed he said that they had no record of me stating to only us USPS. So I thought okay, my mistake and that my e-mail to them with these instructions must have not gone through. I then questioned why the three boxed when I specified to put it all in one box. He said that the lines and insulation had to be shipped in separate boxes to avoid damage. I then told him that if that was the case that I should have been notified and I would have either ordered the brake lines as well or canceled and for now and ordered them all when I ordered my exhaust. He then agreed to credit my card for about $40 for the extra brokerage fees that I paid because of the extra boxes. I felt that was fare because after all I thought I too was part to blame for not having the shipping instructions in with the actual order.
So after this last e-amil I went through the items that I ordered to make sure it was all there and I will say that they do sell very nice repro parts and it was all there.
However, as I check off the last item at the bottom of their customer copy I see in bold letters " CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT ORDER TIL IT CAN BE SHIPPED COMPLETE!!
USPS ONLY!! "
So they had my shipping instructions...they just chose to ignore them. I also see that I was charged $96 for shipping. I then went to the USPS site and got a quote for a 2'x2'x5' 50lb box which would be far larger than my package if I had cancelled the fuel lines and the cost would have been less than $50.
So in the end my $600 order had almost $200 in brokerage and shipping fees where if they had followed my instructions it would have been $50 shipping and no brokerage fees(USPS/Canada Post doesn't charge brokerage fees).
I have sent him an e-mail in regards to the fact that my shipping instructions are in bold print on the bottom of the customer copy but he has yet to reply.
Id really appreciate any advice on how to handle this situation or if I should just leave it alone and chalk it up to experience then I'll do that too.
Sorry for such a long posting but it kind of burns me that I had to pay so much for their neglect.
