What was the first year for the casting mark "P" on the right side of the case. Sized around 2" high and 3/4" wide.

The P started in the March '57 time frame. From Jan to March the posi (pumpkin) housing had an "X" in it instead of the "P". Gary....

There was a handfull of '56 with limited slips

Dennis, there was a handful of 56's with "limited slips", but I've only seen one. Will try to find the photo this morning and post it. Don't exactly remember if it had an "X" on it or not. There was an elongated "O" on the driver's side. In a previous post I stated it was on the nose, but CRS kicked out momentarily and remember it was on the driver's side in the 2nd ribbed section from the top. Photo will help if I can find it. Dec '56 Posi Photo

Dennis, sorry it was a Dec '56 Posi unit, not a '56. Now, I just need to find this rear end in my shop. Recall is getting somewhat better this morning - the '56's were called "High Torque" and have been told they had "HT" stamped into the carrier housing. John Neas or Don Partridge probably have some good info on '56 HT rear ends. Hope the photo link works okay as this's my first attempt at posting a photo on the Tech Board. Regards, Gary....
