    C2-65 muncie transmission or what?

I am trying to change from a hurst shifter and linkage to original. The parts I bought for a 65 muncie four speed won't fit so I may have some other transmission. It is a 10 spline. Cover #6261886 also 2707. The main case is stamped R7M05 GM 3925950 NFC2. The tail housing is 326558 GM58 B-21-7. The holes for the shift arms are a 3/8 tap size and the parts I got a 3/8 bolt won't fit through the slot and the slot is not wide enough.

The '65 used studs, not bolts, the bolted configurations started in 1969.

      Lyle,

The 65 shifter you bought needs to have a triangular shaped plate that bolts to the tail housing of the transmission. This plate is bolted with three allen head flush mount bolts, the shifter then bolts in two places to this plate. Hope that helps.

I have the new shifter and plate and it fits on the tail piece OK. The rods and the arms for a 65 don't fit and I don't know what the transmission came from to buy the linkage.

The rods will be fine, just buy the arms for a '69 or '70 and you should be A-OK

I don't know what transmission you have here. Does it have a cast iron main case? If so, what I expect you have is later "Muncie" from the late 70's. I know the extension housing is for that application. The rest of the casting numbers "don't compute".

The later "Muncie" transmissions were very similar to the Saginaw 4 speeds used during the later 60's early 70's. The Saginaws were never used for a Corvette application, though.

After production of these transmissions was transferred to the Muncie, IN transmission plant and some changes were made, the transmission was used in some later 70's Corvettes with L-48. While most other Corvette transmissions after 1970 used a 26 spline input, the late 70's Muncie did not; it used 10 spline, just like you mentioned.

It is a cast iron case and all three arms are on the cover. It is a 10 spline muncie the stamped date is R7MO5. From the vendor I use they show four different sets of linkage from 64 to 81 used in Corvettes. I bought the 64-68 and have a 69-73 set and know they are wrong. The other choices are 74-76 and 77-81. Can you tell if the 77-81 used 3/8 bolts to hold the arms on as I think this is what I need.
