In both my 59 and 62 I am not experiencing any overheating problems, BUT I was wondering if it wouldn't make more sense to run plain distilled water and Prestone Water Pump and Anti-Rust liquid instead of the usual 50/50 anti-freeze/water mixture I am currently running. Both cars have brand new DeWitt's radiators, new hoses and both run vacuum advance distributors with points. Many years ago, my dad would add a small can of this Prestone Anti-rust white liquid to his cars when he changed the 50/50 mix. Since I live in the D/FW area where temps are pretty temperate year round, I thought this would be the proper coolant to be running. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't want to stake the service life of new DeWitt's radiators on a bottle of Prestone additive and water; a 50-50 mix of proper anti-freeze and distilled water is the best recipe for cooling system performance and corrosion protection.- Top

Re: C1 cooling thoughts requested.
Thanks, John. I knew that plain water was a better conductor of heat than a 50/50 mix of coolant/water and had the thought that it would better cool the C1s. I'll leave them as they are. Thanks for the input.- Top

Re: C1 cooling thoughts requested.
You would gain better heat transfer, but loose boiling point elevation and freeze point suppresion. I am not sure what exactly is in the Prestone additive and whether it is intended to replace the corrosion inhibitor package in the glycol antifreeze or just supplement it. Nalco & some other chemical companies used to offer some corrosion additive supplements to replenish the inhibitors on fleet vehicles and industrial engines. Since you do not have overheating problems why depart from a proven product/practice. As John noted, why risk it.- Top
