Dick if you are still going to the shop to look up in your Delco book for the application of the 924 would you look up one for me as well. My original owner 1970 with air came with the 62 amp 110844. The 1100844 62 amp alternator was replaced under warranty either in the fall or 1970 or early 1971. The replacement alternator is a 63 amp unit and is stamped 1100554 and dated 0J28. I have not been able to identify what the 1100554 63 alternator was for. The 71 Corvettes use a 1100544 with air. I do remember the service rep telling me when I picked up my 70 with the new alternator that they put on a higher amp alternator. Now if I knew then what I know now I would of just had the unit repaired to keep the original alternator.

Hi Jim...As I was thinking about this thread and alternators, I kept remembering a story someone told about having his alternator replaced early. I think that must have been YOUR story...didn't this happen like the day you picked up the car? At first, I wondered if Jeff had bought his car from the story-teller, but in Jeff's case, the date precedes the his car's build date.

The 1100884 was on Corvettes two years only (69-70, C60 or LT1), and AC was still a fairly expensive option not chosen by everyone. I remember when I had mine restored, the lady said "that's the rare one"...at the time, I didn't know what she was talking about. Those alternators must be about as rare as an NOS small head outside mirror...or, non-existent.

          Re: Welcome back Chuckie..

Jim and Chuckie: 924 and 554 alternators were used on, among other things, 71-72 Buick Riviera's. Some other miscelanous applications also.

Chuck, I will take my steak RARE!

Not so fast there, Pappy...I like mine medium, but I won't make you buy at Ruth Chris'.

Like I tol' ya last night:

"All I'm saying is that if St. Louis ran short of alternators at the end of the year, they might impress ANY ADEQUATE GM application into service to keep the line moving until they were finished. So, the Delco book won't really show you anything surprising...unless it says it's for a FORD. "

Jim's 70 alternator was replaced right after he took delivery as I remember (Yes, I admit it happens...called "infant mortality"). His replacement alternator was already dated for an early 71...it was a fresh one, 0J28, or September 28 after 70 production ended in July. What that tells me is Delco is not keeping a lot of alternators in stock for service.

Now, Jeff's alternator is dated BEFORE his build date. Only problem is, it AIN'T the right NCRS Corvette part number. How can this happen? Well, Jeff is either the luckiest unlucky guy...or it's the original alternator built for a Buick, but elevated to higher service.
