    Michael:

My April-built 66 has the characters 3829387 AI stamped into the alterator pulley. I believe the alternator itself to be original. What's up with this?

Everyone Agrees; waiting for more evidence

    Henry,

Before I assume that your pulley isn't original, I'd like to hear from more people. I bought a date-coded alternator, fan and pulley from John Pirkle for my '66 a few years ago and the 3829387 pulley that John sold me has the part # stamped into in like yours does. My question is, why would John be selling these pulleys for people he knows are going to have their cars judged if he didn't think the pulley was 100% correct, including stamped part number? I believe John is a master judge and he should know what's correct and what isn't or what's accepted on the judging field and what isn't, which may be the case here. If the stamped part number pulley was not available in '66, is John not aware of this? Or does he think the stamped pulleys are original to '65 and '66. We don't know the answers to these questions, so at this point I would not conclude that your pulley is not original. I feel like I need more data before I come to a definitive conclusion.

    Gary
