63 SHP Oil Dipstick Again

This is for my 63 FI roadster, 360HP.

After reading this forum, and going through the archives, I realize (knew it already) that I have an incorrect repro dipstick.

It's chrome, but has the "B" stamped on the handle.

No M or W designation stamped.

Just has FULL and ADD on it.

Appears to have the right "washer or seal" on top. The washer is flat chrome with a slightly rounded edge, over a gray felt seal.

SO....

What am I looking for?

The archives are WAY too technical, giving measurements of 21/64ths and 19/32nds of an inch from X to Y.

I need a "gross eyeball" description of an original or correct reproduction 63 SHP dipstick.

I'm off to Carlisle at 5 AM tomorrow. Will be there for 3 days. The dipstick is an item on my want list. TIA. Chuck

Have a Mar 64 FI car. 63 may be different, however you will known better.
Mine has the top chromed with a black cap with metal washer inside cap (no gasket left) About 3/4" away from the riverted top handle area is the "W" or "M".
The end says ADD, a line, a line, FULL, 1/2" space, ENGINE OIL. All markings are stamped into the stick, with the "W" only a soft stamping.

In response to an email;

The dip stick lenght is;
From the handle's lower bump to end of handle the lenght is 2 3/4"

(Note, on the chrome handle there exists two bumps, I assume to hold the rubber and gasket in place. One bump is on top of the black rubber while other is on the inside. Measurement is from bottom bump.)

From the end of handle to bottom of tip the lenght is 18 11/16"

For a total lenght of 21 7/16"

Dr. Chuck, Good seeing you at Carlisle. Glad you got to touch your life loan bent rod again. I went crazy and spent big $$$$ on dipsticks for my 63 360 and finally got the real deal. Jimmy Greg and Carlton Colcough taught me what to look for. Very deeply embossed letters on bottom of stick (gauge or gage). Just like Alan told you. Only thing about my correct dip stick that I didn't like is that the B is barely faint but it is there. Correct length, etc. Probably bought several before getting right one. Bought one on ebay that was advertised as real deal and it wasn't even close. Real wide-don't have a clue what it is.
None of the repros are correct. Old repros we used to buy 20 plus years ago were in fact not repros at all. They were currently available sticks from Chevrolet. I may be incorrect in this statment but I have the sticks to prove. it. Probably have about a dozen or so and they are all crap-except the one in the car. Sorry we didn't have more time to chat. Is the "B" supposed to be there on an original? I thought not.

PS: Enjoyed "visiting" my bent #8 rod. Still feels the same. You've been a good caretaker. You can keep it for a while longer. Chuck
