    69 seat-shoulder belts

Sent my bright blue belts to Ssnake Oyl last week. I had multiple sets to make 1 good set. My originals were missing parts and my coupe didn't have shoulder belts. Which I believe it should have as standard equipment. I bought a set of original shoulder belts that were in excellent condition. The webbing was almost perfect. The webbing on the original lap belts was in pretty bad shape and needed to be replaced. The JG says that the webbing on the shoulders is thinner than the laps. It also says that reproduction material is the thicker lap webbing which Ssnake Oyl confirmed. Which brings me to my question. Ssnake Oyl says that their bright blue color is not the same as my excellent condition shoulder belts. So should I replace the near perfect webbing on my shoulder belts to match the laps and have the thicker webbing on both or leave the thinner shoulder webbing and have the colors be off? Is anything ever easy?

Brad, this is a personal preference question with no good answer...I would probably continue to work on my list of options in your position. Maybe keep the near-perfect shoulder belts for resale, and try to find another raunchy set for restoration with new webbing.

Forced to make a decision, I would not mismatch the colors. This will mean more expense, and I suppose it would also depend on the amount of color mismatch. A good judge may catch the fact that the shoulder webbing is supposed to be thinner, but my wife could tell you the colors are supposed to match. BTW, this is just my personal preference since I don't often judge interiors. Maybe you will get an opinion from an interior judge.

As an interior judge, I can verify that you will lose points for the thicker webbing. I would not discard the originals unless they are so worn as to be unsafe. These cannot be replaced, as there is no new webbing that is correct.

Mismatched colors may not get all the points, but they will probably lose less than the incorrect fabric. We experienced judges know that blue interiors are often not the exact shade on all pieces. Fabric dyes can do wonders, but with faded blue you may have to experiment to get the shade correct.
