    HEI Distributor repair?

    I have a 79 coupe with a beoken distributor and need a shop to put back configuration. Any help appreciated.

    Where are you located? It is a pretty easy unit to work so I think you may have lots of local options open to you.

        It might help if you tell us what's "broken". There were millions of HEIs built and any mechanic who's been around for at least 10 years can probably rebuild one in his sleep. About the only two parts that are subject to failure are the pickup coil and module, and the advance weight bushings also wear out.

        Nearly all GM manuals of the era have a complete troubleshooting and overhaul procedure and you can bench test them with a 12V battery, an electric drill to rotate the shaft, and a single grounded spark plug to check for that blue light.

          At first off, And this was done a long time ago.it had an different advance weights and springs installed, at the same visit something was altered to the shaft I not sure of what. I bought a brand new hei unit, so there's no running problems, But I wanted keep the car neuber matching. So that my problem in a bottle Thanks !

            The saft is very basic but maybe it was cracked. I had an HEI once that had cracks in the "Star" portion at the top of the shaft. The GM guys said it wasn't uncommon to need to replace shafts because of this.
