    C3 Tach Died

C3 Small Block base engine..... On the way home from visiting a shop with three Duntov Vettes,,,,, the tach started making some noise,,,, the tach needle started to move eradically,,,, then while moving up & down,,, began to indicate slower and slower rpms till it died a not too dignified death.

Does this sound like the gear in the Distributor or the tach cable? The needle was moving freely, so I doubt its in the guage itself. Also are the parts necessary to correct readily available or am I already destined to the search mode (or mental institution) while trying to locate???

    Thanks for all help!!!

    Re: C3 Tach Died

Readily available parts to rebuild your distributor. The shafts in the distributor very long ago were specific for Corvette engines. If the tach drive was listed as a regular maint item in the owners manual, I have wondered how many would not of failed. It is very easy to remove the tach drive gear and install new lubrication. Almost all the Corvette parts suppliers can provide you with a distributor shaft and tach drive gear.
