Rob, my memory is suffering from ncrs syndrome. I double checked my notes and these are the finishes I observed on my 70:
Probe Springs: I used black phosphate on these just as you originally suggested.
Probe Spring Retainers: Zinc as I thought.
Probes: Surprise here...My best determination was it's a medium gray phosphate, not natural as 2nd edition indicates. Use your own discretion about going contrary to the TIM&JG.
Spring seats: These are actually built into the probe mounting base, which is black phosphate.
The small springs on the latches on the hood are still a low gloss paint as far as I know.
