C2 Hood, Pin & Hinge finish?

For a 1964 when was the hood pin installed? Before blackout, before paint, after both? Have pin out and need to install so need color. The pin consists from hood down of the following; seat spring retainer & bolt.

Now the JM appears to say, gloss black spring, natural retainer and bolt, and some blackout (?) or overspray on the seat.
If the pin assembly was on the car before blackout did MFG use a shield (tube) over the pin assembly? I would expect that some blackout would thus appear on the top of spring and bolt with the entire retainer covered with blackout.

    What is recommonded for this!

SECOND - the Hood Hinge. JM says it was blackout paint, however the 63 Service Manual shows it natural, however the 64 Supp shows it black. My original is natural - perhaps cleaned a little, but I would never strip if the entire part was black (would painted it black again) The pin with small dimples in four rows show NO paint nor does any of the hinge parts show any left over black.

Is there an update to the hinge color being considered?

    Thanks for Help

Re: C2 Hood, Pin & Hinge finish?

Before blackout, and it was protected during blackout with a sleeve so that the only paint seen on the pin assembly is right around the base of the spring retainer where it meets the fiberglass. As to the hood hinges, I don't think the service manual is at all representative of a production vehicle as the manuals have to be done by the time thae cars are sold, so in a "new" model like the '63, pictures would come from engineering prototypes or even mockups with little regard to the actual production process details that do not effect the servicability of the item at hand. The blackout process has been pretty well documentated, and it is recognized as having some variability, but the '64 picture is more likely representative of a production vehicle.

      Re: Hinge finish?

      Thanks Bill,

Will finish up the pin assembly and for now leave the hinge alone.

Also saw in the original owners guide (1964) that the hinge were black. The 63 Service Manual appears to show an un-blackout hood, so as you mentioned it was done before production.
