    67 bolt on wheels

Do the repro 67 bolt on wheels require a special lug nut? It appears that the wheel would require some type of "shouldered" lug nut in order to seat in the wheel correctly.

    Thanks, Rex #8089

    Rex -

The original Kelsey-Hayes bolt-on wheels had holes that accepted the standard 7/16" lug studs and used the ordinary 3/4" hex production lug nut - same one used with standard steel wheels. The reproduction bolt-on wheels have 3/4" holes and use unique barrel-shanked flanged closed-end chrome lug nuts with a 7/8" hex and a loose hardened flat washer between the flange on the nut and the surface of the wheel.

I have the repro bolt-ons on my '67, and to avoid having to carry two lug wrenches (one 3/4" for the spare tire lock/support bolt to drop the spare tire tray, and another 7/8" for the lug nuts), I welded a standard 3/4" lug nut to a 7/8" six-point socket that I carry in my "road box", so the stock lug wrench works for both hex sizes.
