    Ballast Resistor (?) Question

Trying to organize the parts in my garage, and came across what I think may be a ballast resistor but not sure.
It is a piece of ceramic mounted in a bracket with two male terminals protruding (one on each end). Measure 3 1/2 " long by 3/4 square
    Printed on fron tis the following:Colber .8OHM 10% CW50/BKTS
Does anyone know what this is and what the application is?
I don't hink it is for my 68 L79 coupe.
    Thank you,
    Kurt # 26406

      Re: Ballast Resistor (?) Question

Sounds like an aftermaket or other OE ballast. Original GM ballasts have screw terminals and should measure either about 0.3 or 1.8 ohm.

Some modern cars have very similar looking devices, but they are usually used to cut electric cooling fan voltage to enable two-speed operation.

          Re: Thank You

Kurt for sure it does not go on your 68. 1968 Corvettes were the first year to use a resister wire connected to the coil directly from the terminal box mounted in the firewall below the master cylinder. The resister wire replaced the function of the ballast type you found.
