C1 cast iron powerglide

Would someone please verify the measurement for the fill tube from the housing to the top opening. On my 60, I measured the distance as 8 3/8 but there is an additional 3/8 unpainted band showing above the housing as if to mean that the tube should go further in. The tube support is bolted to the upper bolt on the side of the transmission. My concern is that I may be filling the transmission too full.

I have a 1960 with CI PG. Just so I understand what you need. You are looking for the length of the transmission dipstick/fill tube from the top to the point where it enters the transmission housing? I will measure this weekend.

Yes. That's the dimension I need to verify that the tube is in far enough. Thanks

Howard, the measurement on my 1960 PG is 8 3/8" from top to point where tube enters the PG case.

The end was not painted because of the rubber seal -sealing, paint there was a bad thing

Thanks. I was not sure if there was an o'ring seal or just a light interference fit into the housing. None of the manuals have any information on the tube installation.
