    engine rebuild

I was also wondering if the cost of my rebuild was fair? the engine was completely done including boring out to .30 over, new cam(350), pistons, rings, valves, seats, bearings, clutch, belts, engine mounts and resurfaced fly wheel. Also removing, installing eengine, trans and installing rear valence and installing new stage 2 exhaust(labor only)and detailing the engine compartment. The total was $2975.00. I didnt really price it out but he had always done well for me.I drove the car today and it is awesome. It sounds great with the stage 2 undercar exhaust and really pulls hard in all gears. I didnt expect asmall block 300 horse car to be that strong. I was going to do some body and paint work when I got it back but I think now I will drive and enjoy it and start work when the cold weather comes.

Charles...very fair price. I will spend close to $2000 just for the machine work and parts. I am doing all the other labor...remove, disassemble, assemble, and reinstall.

I think you received a fair price for what you had done.
I had my L79 motor completely rebuilt by a machine shop at $3,200.00
I supplied the engine and all the new parts and they did the machine work and the assembly. I removed the engine from the car and reinstalled it, so I think your price is far better than what i paid. You had more done for less money.

          keep it all in perspective

My 2000 Impala trashed the roller lifters (internal water leak). It cost $1200 to remove/replace the intake and to put in new lifters. I think you got a GREAT deal even on labor alone!

Thanks guys, makes me feel better to know I wasnt ripped. If you live near my area (Central NJ) his name is Bud from Performance Machine (Sayreville, NJ). He has been doing this for 40 years in the same location. He also rebuilt my Ford 260 for my Sunbeam Tiger. If I had taken out the engine and brought it to him he would have done the engine top to bottom for $1600.00 with guarantee. It was $2400 to take the engine out and rebuild. The extra cost came from the parts for the clutch and sending the car out to have the exhaust put in. He uses quality parts and gets it done fast, usually within 1-2 weeks. It looks good and runs great. If anyone needs more info send me a note.
