C2 - 63 - What is verdit for Boston ZERK or cap?

Did NCRS ever reach conclusion yet on the ZERK fitting or the plastic cap on the Clutch Support Bar... I hate to bring this up again, but it seems it was left an open item. I emailed Carlton Colclough and he told me to go by the book, however he was going to look at the AIM and will let me know this weekend...so here we go again Zerk or cap?

Getting the last items finished for Boston.....

Collin, Follow the judging manual for now and you won't get dinged. Later if there is a revision in the manual then do whatever is necessary. If the manual says dead rat on left fender then put it on. That's a quote from a big blond guy who wears shorts even in the snow. John

Oh this is so confusing..... I think the hole in the clutch support bar is too small for a dead rat...will a small mouse due?

Thanks John, I think I will go with the platic cap of course I bet its a different color then the one LIC sells, and keep the Zerk fitting and the wrench in my kit for a field replacement mod if needed...but Carlton was kind enough to email me last night and told me he will have an answer this weekend....

BTW John, Peter did a great job on the keys for me... He is a great guy to talk too, and since the last judging experience I have fixed most of the issues point out...so we are looking good for Boston. Just getting these little items on the to do list finished.

      Thanks John,,, Collin

        John,

What does the latest manual call for? I agree, I would go with what ever is in the manual, at least for now. I have a 3rd edition but the 4th may be different.

Also, there's no mention of a dead rat in the 3rd edition.

            John,

In the AIM's it looks like the fitting was correct for 63 but was replaced with the plastic plug for the 64 model year. I think the latest JG agrees with this so I would definitely go with the fitting on a 63.

Link below is for a pic of the correct rat for the left fender. Even has yellow stripes to match the other silly white stripes on vacuum hoses. (that most likely weren't on original hoses)

There you go...That's what happens when you don't follow the rules. Clearly sez in the Driver Handbook, "DO NOT CROSS DOUBLE YELLOW LINE TO PASS"!!!

JG states "original" factory installed cross shafts have a plastic plug installed in place of the grease fitting in the underside of the cross shaft

JG and Assembly Manual don't agree - A.I.M. shows installation of the zerk, changed in '64-up to the plastic plug. Shop Manuals confirm - '63 Shop Manual "Lubrication" section just says to lubricate it, '64-up Shop Manuals say to remove the plug and install a zerk, then lubricate it.

                        John,

My 66 cross shaft had a Zerk fitting installed and just before judging I removed it and installed a red plastic plug purchased from LIC to meet the JM specifications.

It was good to see Joe Lucia and you at Carlisle.

                        Regards,
                        Dave K.

                          John,

so what takes precedence - AIM or TIM&JG!? belive the JG takes precedence from judging perspective on the judging field - as that is what a car is judged against - correct?

Rick, That's what I told Collins several months ago. Told him to go with the plug as that is what the manual states. Then he cannot get dinged for it and if he does he should point out to the judge that the JM says plug. Peter Lindahl has the orange plug. Others like red. Don't know which is correct. JD cars has big fitting on little white car-taping plug on next to fitting. So when car is greased mechanic has choice. Let's move on to a more interesting topic guys. Sick of hearing about the plug. Sorry-it's late. John

                              Rick,

If I were preparing a 63 for judging, it would definitely have a grease fitting in the clutch cross shaft.
