at a NCRS judging meet, would there be points deducted for installing a hydraulic cam in a matching # 327-340 hp engine in a 63?

During Flight Judging, probably not. Just hope that you get a partially deaf judge during the ops portion. There's lots of us around so I wouldn't worry.- Top

Re: Solid vs. hydraulic cam in a '63
The 340 HP engine is a solid lifter engine with the 097 cam. I just had my 340 HP engine rebuilt to original specifications except for thicker head gaskets and that should reduce the compression a little. The engine builder wanted me to lower the compression and told him as it left the factory. The engine starts and runs great on 93 octane gas.
Thanks to the forum members that suggested that I rebuild original!

340's and 360's both used the same "097" Duntov solid-lifter cam. Those of us that have been "solid-lifter nuts" all our lives would notice the lack of that sweet mechanical singing sound during Ops, but you might get lucky and get someone not familiar with that music- Top
