L 88 J56 brakes and front hub spindle

do the brake pads have a steel backing that is angled over the exposed portion of the pad? and, is this steel backing plate painted red?

is the upper and lower portion of the spindle upright painted engine orange with the center portion left bare metal?

Original J56 pads have steel backing plate that angles over the edge of the caliper. The lettering on the top of the pad should be red but I have never seen the backing plate that color.

The set that I have does have some type of red coating to it but it looks more like a protective coating to the steel part of the pad not actually paint. I have pictures (of pads, calibers and brackets) and would be happy to send if you will provide me your address. FYI the lettering on the pads is white and repeats " FXMIEE FXMIEE FXMIEE" email your.

          Mark,

Actually Burgundy is closer to my color as well. My eyes just aren't what they use to be.

            Pic of J56 front pads

The box has part # 5468882 and the red/orange stamping reads "DELCO" (903FF) 5468883 (repeats). You can see how the burgundy "spray" was intended to be applied to the surface of the pad contacting the backing plate.
