    Radiator paint prep

I am repainting the copper radiator on my 1969. What is the best sand blasting medium to remove the old paint? I use aluminum oxide for most things. Will that cause any problems? Thanks.

Hi Bill...I haven't used it, but aluminum oxide is selected for its aggressive cutting action and long life; it might be a little aggressive for brass/copper. I would probably use fine glass beads, reduce the air pressure, and stand the nozzle off the work to avoid any damage until I understood how fast the media was going to cut.

      Hi Bill

Try going to a radiator shop and see if they will strip it for you. They did one for me awhile back. I think they use some kind of acid. I personally think your taking a chance of blowing holes in the radiator if you sandblast it. Just my suggestion.

      Good luck....John
