    tires and jets

I have a 74' and would like to know if anyone can tell me the manufacturer or brand name of the tires that came on it when new, i.e. Goodyear, Firestone etc.? Also, can anyone tell me the original jet size and correct mettering rods for the carb. The vin is 1237J4S400215 and it is a L48 equiped car. Thank you, Corky.

    Re: tires and jets

For 1974, Corvettes were supplied with GR70-15 radial tires. Many Corvettes during 1974 were equipped with the "Firestone Steel Radial 500" tire, although other tire brands may also have been used.

As far as carburetion details go, your car was originally equipped with a Rochester Model 4MV Quadrajet Carburetor, GM #7044206 if your car is an automatic trans or #7044207 if manual trans. Either carb used the following jets and metering rods:

    primary jets-------GM #7031975---number 75---.075"orifice size prim. met. rods----GM #7034836---number 36B sec. met. rods-----GM #7045779---identifier "CH"---.1353"/.1060"/.0570"

      Re: tires and jets

Corky, as Joe L. mentioned, the Firestone 500 was one brand installed on '73 thru '77 Corvettes. The other known brand was the Goodyear GR70-15 "STEELGARD" radial tire. Both these brands came three ways, standard blackwall or optional white stripe or white letter. The Firestone 500s were recalled due to the tire separating internally. A friend of mine was driving his Corvette with these recall tires last summer(he did'nt know anything about the recall) and a left rear tire literally came apart at about 45mph and ended up doing severe damage to the driver's side dogleg behind the door. Joe, a follow up

Joe, what would the carb jets and rods be for a '73 L82 auto?
