The ad says extremely rare 1965 L78 convertible. Not only is the color very rare but it seems to conveniently have every option including the very rare ballast resistor but no transistorized ignition. It is currently at 122K and hasn't met reserve! What a deal.

Re: Another amazing ebay offering
Maybe it's also one of those "super rare early production" L-78s with a VIN sequence number well under 10XXX.
Saw one of those go for big bucks at B-J about five years ago.
What's most amazing is that a lot of buyers don't seem to even care if a car is, uh... fake, but I think that may come back to haunt them. As time passes the market is likely to get more savvy in differentiating originals from fakes.

Engine Numbers.....
Pretty strange looking engine stamp pad. Must be some new kind of broach?

Re: Another amazing ebay offering
You are all being critical of this car without an itemized list of what its flaws are. It looks like a very nice restoration to me. But there are insinuations that it is a fake of some kind. I can't handle the price, and would not consider purchasing it, but I am curious as to what your problems are. Need a little NCRS education here. I would be very interested in your comments.- Top

Re: Another amazing ebay offering
Verle,,,Its my understanding that all 65s had M20s if they had 4-speeds, but M20s came in both close and wide ratios. It just depended on which engine and rear combo you ordered which M20 you got. The M21 close ratio term began use in 1966........Bill S- Top

ebay 65 L78
I am not qualified to opine on stamp pad fonts and broach marks (seriously, I only feel comfortable calling out the really poor DIY efforts) but so far I see an oddly-tight body build date on the trim tag (looks like J3 = May 3) and "birthday" (electronic calculators put it at May 3).

Re: ebay 65 L78
I didn't even notice that it was an AOS body. If that's the case, there are more problems than just the time of build.- Top
