    C-1 exhaust

Could someone please tell me how far should the exhaust pipe should extend beyond the rear bumper on a '58 ? should it be flush ? I cannot find any info./specs etc.

    Thanks

I thought the exhaust pipe was suppose to be flush with the bumper. When I look at pics in Adams books, the pipes do not extend beyond the bumper.

Myabe we are saying the same thing. The exhaust pipes do extend beyond the body - 1 inch is probably about right. But the pipes are inside the bumper, and do not extend beyond the enclosure (based on the pics I have seen).

If you terminate the pipes forward of the opening in the bumper, the acidic condensate in the exhaust system will dribble on the chrome bumper and corrode it. I used to set mine 1/2" or so rearward of the edge of the bumper so the condensate dribbled without touching the bumper.

                Dewight,

I have my exhaust pipes extended beyond the rear lip of the bumpers for the same reason John stated .... to help prevent the chrome on the bumpers from deposits and rusting. My car is a driver. I had the rear bumpers re-done a number of years ago and fitted the pipes even? with the end of the bumpers. The result was ..... chrome peeling and rust. This time I extended the pipes beyond the bumpers and have had nothing ... no deposit and no rust. Whether this is correct for NCRS judging I'm not sure, my car will not be judged. I don't want to send the bumpers out again in a few years for additional $$$$$$. Hope this clears up " same here on a '58."

                Regards,

                David
