    C1 top question...

Try as I might, I cannot find out what "weight" the canvas used for 53-55 tops was. Since I cannot find a source for the correct color, I'm considering having one made. I know a guy who's willing to stitch the top, but I'd like to get as close to the original weight as possible.

One thing I'd like to straighten out is I have read the car (#1518) should have a green vinyl top, but the top on it is canvas. To the best of my knowledge, this is the original top, but of course anything prior to 1960 is a bit hazy for me, since I was 6 that year. My Dad is no help here, as he has passed away. However, I do remember that even in the early 60's, my Dad rarely out the top up, since it was in poor condition even then.

      Well, that begs another question...

How? I'm a pretty good searcher, but I have struck out. This website came closest, with "John Kennedy: See Driveline for Address, Phone", but that's not much help. Besides, if I answer this question elsewhere, readers on this forum may miss out on the answer.

          I guess I'll...

have to track down a copy of the Restorer, but that'll still leave everyone here in the dark.

Re: "...leave everyone here in the dark."?

Dave, Since Mike was kind enough to provide you with the location of the contact information and ALL NCRS members receive copies of the Restorer I fail to understand your statement/compliant about leaving people in the dark.

              Because when I dig up

the contact info and call on the phone to get the details, the only way anyone here will ever know what I found out is if I write it all down and type it into a follow-up posting. I was not implying that Mike was not forthcoming with info, but unless I transcribe my eventual results onto this thread, this thread will be of little use to anyone. I always thought that a technical forum was for discussion of technical details, which are so far completely lacking from this thread. Thanks to all who steered me in the right direction (I hope) to get answers to these questions. If so, I'll try to get back with the info, but if this happens after my next Masters class starts, this thread is gonna be WAY down the page, due to time constraints.

When you do get the info you wont then just pass on what you were asking first then give the answers

John Kennedy is in his 70's and has

been in the interior/top business for 40+ years. The reason he is listed as such in the Restorer is, as Mike McCagh stated, his work is OUTSTANDING. Over the years, he has spent a considerable amount of time in his business flying from Salt Lake City around the WORLD to do "his thing", from 1953 "003" on down. He has appeared at NUMEROUS Chapter, Regional & National Conventions and lectured, answered questions, etc. When asked, he has delivered comments on virtually ALL of the judging guides.
You seem to imply that because you have not been paying attention, John's information is a Secret. Such is not the case.

Not at all, I'm just surprised

no one here has the answer to what I thought was a pretty simple question. No doubt Mr. Kennedy knows a great deal on the subject, I understand he has been working on these things since about 1957, at which time my top was likely still in pretty good shape.
