    C2 Hood Support screw finish?

About to put hood support back on after cleaning! The AIM calls out two different screw numbers, 9409107 to secure to hood and 3797168 to secure to finder bracket.
The JM calls for a screw with the unside down "T" and anchor below.

Here is my problem, all screws are 1/4-20 at 3/4" with captured washer.
Three screws are finished in black chromate and one is in bright zinc.
The black ones have no logo on inside while the bright one has the T/anchor.
I do find the blank logo on the black screws listed for use on the Paragon Bolt Chart for hood latch door.

SOoo, what is the correct finish for these? What is the difference betwwen the two part numbers?

    Thanks

PS: JM only calls for the "Atwood" on the support and not the "ROCKFORD NJ" directly below in smaller point size. Another update?

They should all be bright zinc

      T and anchor heads

The ones I found on my original 67 were cad clear (zinc was used too). They all had the T and anchor design on the heads.

      Best,
      Tony

        Re: C2 Hood Support screws

Alan - Not many folks notice or realize that there are 2 different screws called out for attaching the hood support as many car have the 3797168 screws in all 4 locations. but then again it's hard to tell after all these years that the factory didn't install some of the supports that way instead of fishing around for the 3797168 screws for the support to fender location and the 9409107 screws for the support to hood location.

p/n 3797168 is a 1/4-20 x 3/4" zinc plated screw with 3/8" sunken head, intergral plain washer, and cone point end. The head markings of the 2 on my car are the inverted "T" and an "anchor." This is the most typical headmarking although I seen some of the screws with plain heads and some with only the anchor

p/n 9409107 is a 1/4-20 x 5/8" zinc plated screw with a 7/16" sunken head, integral lock washer, and flat end. The head markings of the 2 on my car are the anchor although there might be other head markings.

BTW, I think you will find the "ROCKFORD" stamping is "ROCKFORD ILL" Pete

          Alan,

While the assy manual does indeed call for a 9409107 for the upper hood support screws, in reality, they were actually the same 3797168 screw assy's that was supposed to be used in the lower end of the support. All four would be the same anchor head zincad plated screw with washer and a unique size (3/8") hex head.

Hint.... if you need a few of these 3797168's, and you happen to have the inside lower windshield mldg removed, you will find several securing the dash panel under the mldg. The original zincad plating will likely be perfect. (I won't tell anyone that you have a few incorrect bolts holding your dash panel in place)

            Thaks for all the help!
They are now all bright finished with anchor, which is what judging would expect.

Some time I will get the ans first, then clean and plate the screws, however I'm sure the plain head screws (were black) can be used elsewhere.

PS; the Rockford could very well be ILL since the area from the R on is worn.
            Thanks again

Re: C2 Hood Support screw finish?

When I lived in Mt Carroll IL, a small town of about 1700 people, a division of the Atwood company still had a small facility there and, suposedly, this was the place where the hood support was actually made in the 60's. It's about 60 miles from Rockford. I inquired about original tooling and prints but they had nothing. The support mfg operation was moved to some other larger division of Atwood some time in the 70's or possibly the early 80's.
