    1970 Ignition switch problem

I have a 1970 LTI with TI ignition. The engine will not fire or start, until I release the ignition switch from the start position. If I hold the switch in the start position it will just crank the engine over. As soon as I resease the switch it will fire. Any Ideas as to the problem?

Sounds typical of a wiring harness problem where ignition continuity can be good/bad in the engine cranking position and good/bad in the engine run position of the ignition switch. A competent local auto electric shop can diagnose/repair this for you quite quickly...

I'm no T.I. expert, but it sounds like the coil bypass circuit from the "R" terminal on the starter solenoid is open. The T.I. diagram I have for '66-'71 shows the production 18-ga. yellow coil bypass wire from the "R" terminal connecting to an 18-ga. pink wire that's part of the T.I. harness.

        Dave,

Has your TI amplifier been "upgraded" with a new circuit board? I had the same exact problem and was solved by replacing the "new and improved" board with an original replacement one.

Dave, I had a similiar symptom with my old 396 with TI. Turns out my problem was the timing was way retared after I put in the dist. Have you reinstalled the distributor? I would get a timing light and check your timing. Chris

I just recently purchased this car, and I know that the whole TI system was just rebuilt. I will look into this. Thanks all.
