He described to me a horsehair type brush, if I recall correctly. Still sloppily applied so that it would easily drip off the sides. Some original springs have nice globs of pain on the sides running "upside down" when installed in the car.

After removing the rear spring in my '64, taking it apart, etc., it appeared to be in rebuildable condition after the grime, light surface rust, etc., were removed. The old spring liners were pretty much worn out.

A spring rebuild kit from Quanta contained the necessary liners, paint, and a new center bolt. With new hardware and spring end pads installed the rear ride height on my car went up about an inch, or so. This 40 year old leaf spring turned out to be good as new!

The Ionoklad would almost have to be applied with a roller or brush. It's so viscous I cannot see how it could be sprayed on. I don't think that they would have been able to thin it, either; it's supposed to go on thick and going on thick means that it's going to run over to a lot of places that the roller or brush didn't touch.

Still, the original spring on my 69 had no traces of the Ionoklad on the edges of the leaves (the little that you can see of them with the liner edges obscuring most). I did not discover the Ionoklad until the first time I disassembled the spring for rebuilding.

John. I did the very same thing. Now my 39 year old springs look great. Sometimes we just need to get our hands dirty!
