C2 _No power to wiper motor

    63 convertible_ new wiring harnesses

Wipers worked before car was disassembled so I'm assuming switch and motor are ok (could be a bad assumption). All lights and gauges in cluster function. Ignition and light switches are functioning. But I have no power to the wiper motor. I'm a bit confused (easily done) about how wiper motor circuit is powered . From the wiring diagram, it appears that the power source is a brown wire from the voltage regulator. Did I read that correctly? Any suggestions on checks to run?
    Thanks,as usual.

According to the WSW wiring print, there is a ground wire that attaches from the engine wiring harness, breaks out at the same point as the coil wire. Make sure that is attahced. That wire is joined at the regulator ground circuit, so make sure that is attached to a point that is a good ground. The remaining connections all come thru the front of dash from the IP harness, the center wire in the three way connector should be hot with the key on and is supplied from the ignition switch. Look for voltage all along the path and check the ground, and you should find your problem.

Your copy of the 1963 Corvette Shop Manual (available from NCRS merchandise center) has a full section on wiper diagnostic and repair in Section 12, Electrical-Body And Chassis including on-car and on-bench testing. At the end of this section of the book are diagnostic charts of the electrical body components, including the wiper motor, that list items to check/verify by malfunction symptom(s)...

The ground for the wiper motor and blower motor comes from the wire that is attached to the mounting bolt at the starter. It is common for people to put this wire on the +12 at the starter solenoid. (since it has a large lug) It will result in the symptoms you have just described.

Also, the wiper motor is hot all the time when the ignition is on. You are applying a ground from the wiper switch to complete the circuit.

Good luck! If this doesn't fix your problem, you will need someone on site for aid in troubleshooting this problem.

        JR
